    Hi ppl.

I just started a calling card business in Australia, hopefully I learn enough to do termination as well.

I also have an interest in starting something in China so if anyone has good ideas or something, do reply.

Seems like the response is rather slow, I suppose most of the people here are already professionals and most probably keeping trade secrets, others may have good ideas, but may be afraid of leaking information that may be used by competitors.

The irony thus is that while VOIP is a communication tool, no one likes to talk about it, other than looking for mins or selling mins.

I agree, but the category "Market Place" was created for exchanging business information only. We would love to build a VoIP community here. I guess the best way is to bring some people in who like to discuss VoIP or for that matter telelphony matters. You know any VoIP enthusiast?

I am glad to see you here though, do you have any ideas how we can create a vibrant VoIP community? I know we need this! I don't know of a single forum that does that.

Can you believe though with such slow responses, we are probably going to be the largest VoIP community in a few days (with the present growth)?

NOW people, lets not just talk business, discuss VoIP matters as well.

I am just happy that someone replied to me!!!

The discussion forums are created to discuss anything VoIP or Telecom. Our main objective is helping the VoIP community if that means this website becomes a vehicle for buying and selling only, we absolutely don't mind but often times what sales people do not realize is the best way to make a sale is by engaging in discussion and building relations, don't you agree?

I guess it is kind of hard to go out of the business context, since VOIP currently is the buzz, and people who are in the know can use this to make money, it would thus be very hard to break out of this money making mould and have some sort of discussion.

If lets say we were talking about the technologies, like codecs or standards, it is probably something most of us have no idea about.

Developments of VOIP would also be interesting, like what is going to reduce bandwidth, or improve quality etc,

How about what new markets are available, especially developing countries that are going to deregulate.

I guess there are lots of things to discuss, but again, as a businessman, money speaks louder.
Geez, I don't even know what I am talking about now..

Being in the VOIP business, one can only wonder what the influence of software like Skype and MSN will do to the future of this business.

Both softwares are free, and provide relatively good voice quality depending on the connection. The question is will there be a shift of business directions due to the changes in technology.

Does it mean companies now have to divert their attention to developing countries, where broadband and computers are a rarity?

Comments please, and how such software has affected you.

I'm a programmer, some UNIX background, but more recently working in SQL 2000 and VB. I have a girl friend in the Philippines, trying to find a cheaper way to call her, and for her to call home when she comes to Dallas TX.

I have a buddy that used to sell $0.15/minute cards (about $5,000 of cards per month) for there, but that company went out of business. Now the cheapest I can find are for $0.20/minute.

Being the programming type, I downloaded Vocal, and bought the book. Does anyone use Vocal? Am I headed in the right direction?

In our opinion, the VoIP Business will be a thriving business in the dveloping countries because there is almost NO fibre optics lines laid out there and a mass migration to develoed countries is taking place there. People are constantly trying to move to the developed nations and their need for calling home will be very demanding. And since the developing nations do not have the DIGITAL infrastructure, they will have to rely on the existing OLDER generation telephony systems, so Call Termination will be a growth market there for the next 20 years to come until they catch up on laying out FIBRE IPTIC LINES. Until FIBRE optics are in place, one can not imagine the spread of broad band and without the spread of broad band the need for VoIP equipments (other than Gateways) are not going to be high.

Thats just our reading on it. What do you think?

We are delighted to have you here. Please contribute to the community. We have people here who only participate in business deals but once in a while we should all participate in Telecom/Telephony discussions, industry trends etc.

We would love to see a vibrant community of Telecom people here. It took us a long time to gather over 3000 professionals...now the easiest part would be to get us to talk to each other besides only business talk.lol
