    Hi everyone!

I am interested to know about solutions to provide IP communication to a PBX (80 lines in a Hotel in BIMINI - Bahamas, and 50 wireless lines. All lines remain connected to a PBX, and the PBX need to work in DUAL MODE PBX/IP). Also we need to connect our principal Branch office (MIAMI) to the Hotel in BIMINI.

Can any one tell me how to start and what do i need to buy equipments: voip hardware, voip software, voip services, etc.

Thank you in advance for your help!

    What you need:

You're looking at 2 Dual Xeon Servers each with a 1 Gb of Ram
Get a couple 10/100 or GigE 24 port switches
and 80 IP Phones , if you have high speed internet at both locations you can use that to make and receive calls between the two locations as extensions , etc. Every extension can have voicemail, etc.

Obviously you need a set of:
    1) Gateway that has Passthru for yout PBX
    2) Gatekeeper or Billing Platform

I will recommend you to use a mix of Quintum Tenor Gateways, probably for 80 phones at .35 milierlangs of use it will be 1xE1 more than enough for your requirements, meaning that to serve 80 residential or Hotel phones you may need no more than 28 to 30 PSTN lines or VOIP provided lines.
In this case you do not need to replace your actual PBX Quintum Tenor has a port
that will bring in your PBX and will go out to your traditional TDM carrier but all calls that you desire to send VOIP will be taken to the IP network, here is where the Gatekeeper receives the call and distributes the call to the termination that you desire, you can have 2 IP termination providers, as an example Go2Call and MCI as your A-Z, this way you still can use your PBX for calls from people in the island to the hotel guests or from hotel guest to local services or to keep some flow to maintain your contract with the TDM provider.
The gatekeeper is optional once the CDR comming out of the Quintum can be recorded in a regular server to keep track of the totals that you owe to your termination, the billing to Rooms is still based on your actual PBX.
I am assuming you have a PBX already and you do not want to give it away because of your investment and you still want to use the good rates of IP telephony.
    *****************************************

Assuming that you have nothing and you want to begin from ZERO.

I would take Sipura IP phones or Grandstream IP phones and hook them to structurated cabling, set up a Wireless 802.11b network to cover the hotel area and surrounding areas so customers can get a wireless IP phone with the room and they can be reached anywhere in the hotel area or hotspots as well as they can make a call from this areas, phones are not that cheap but are as small as a cellular phone quality is great.

All this devices MUST connect to a gatekeeper and will get billed based on the mac address of the device or the Caller ID assigned to each room, the functions are extensive and you can have voicemail, 3 way call, conferencing, Follow me, Fax, etc all the service you can imagine with this new PBX/IP Centrex services.
This gatekeeper I may think of a Voicemaster 2000 with Norfa services, you can find about this at www.norfa.com

If you need consulting about your project, we can help you all the way around from purchase to configuration and start-up as well as support.

I have VoIP/PBX implementations in the Bahamas in the same industry and may be able to help you. Your implementation does not sound overly complicated and you may be able to utilize most of your equipment and simply compliment it with an iPBX system.

The challenge as I see it is the link between Bimini and your Miami branch office. If you want to take advantage of VoIP you will need a decent broadband connection. The best player in your market is Cable Bahamas and last time I checked (last week) they don't have any infrastructure in Bimini. That leaves you with Batelco, if available, and very ineffecient or Satellite broadband which is notorious for delay and normally not robust enough for quality VoIP.

If interested I'm available in your market and could deliver a turn-key solution for you with support. Best of luck.
